Overview
Harishchandragad is one of the premier high forts near Mumbai, Maharashtra. Its strong fortifications feature several access routes, including the Junnar Gate, Sadhale Ghat, Nalichi Wat, and Indore Vaat.
The intricate carvings found in the temples of Nageshwar in Khireshwar village, at the Harishchandreshwar temple, and within the Kedareshwar cave suggest that the fort dates back to the medieval period, linked to Shaiva, Shakta, or Naath traditions. The fort was later controlled by the Mughals and was captured by the Marathas in 1747. Key attractions at the fort include Sapta Tirta Pushkarini, Kedareshwar Cave, the Konkan Kada cliff, Taramati Peak, and the Temple of Harishchandreshwar.
